Cyndi Lauper marries in Manhattan

Pop star Cyndi Lauper, combining mainstream with edge, married actor David Thornton on Sunday in the 205-year-old Manhattan Friends Meeting House. During the ceremony, performed by Little Richard, Patti LaBelle sang "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Guests included Pee-wee Herman and John Turturro, who played the title role in the movie Barton Fink. Lauper, who had announced a Christmas Day wedding and had threatened to dress like a lighted tree, wore a white- satin bustier party dress.
