MESSAGE FROM WEBMASTER
"Thirty-four years ago I remember seeing the video for Girls Just Want to Have Fun for the first time. I remember listening to the Top 100 Countdown on a transistor radio in a tent while my family was fishing, waiting to hear it (it went to #2).I remember seeing Cyndi fly over the crowd in a garbage can singing Money Changes Everything while mascara streamed down her face. I also remember receiving a telegram from Cyndi on my 15th birthday. It made the local entertainment column. The kids at school teased me about my "girlfriend". I learned shortly afterwards that it was my best friend Garth who had sent the telegram, but I wasn't even upset. He did it because he knew how much it would mean to me. I still have it with my Cyndi scrapbooks.
It was August 13th, 1999, when I first met Cyndi. Well, sort of. I knew from reading online reviews that she would be coming in from the rear of the stadium singing She Bop. When the lights dimmed and the electric guitar started peeling, I watched the spotlight and left my fourth row seats with the bouquet of red roses held low. The first security guard stopped me about ten feet from my seat and told me to go back. I waited til he was watching for Cyndi then ducked behind his back and scurried behind another couple of security guards to the edge of the floor section.
The spotlight got closer and I could finally see little Cyndi, with short bluish hair and wearing a silver-blue sort of track suit. As she approached the stage, I stepped out closer to the nearing spotlight. A security guard tried to reach for me but stopped because, well, she saw that Cyndi had seen me holding out the roses and was walking toward me.
I beamed as Cyndi breaked between lines to say "For me?" "Yes. I'm Curtis Newart", I blurted. We stood in the spotlight on the floor of GM Place while Cyndi took the flowers and gave me a big hug and pressed her cheek to mine and blew an air kiss, then said "thank you." There were about 13,000 people watching just Cyndi and I for that brief moment. She continued singing as she climbed the stage and finished the song clutching her roses.
I still have the glitter confetti makeup from my cheek left there by her. On a card, under tape, in my scrapbooks.
I think it's amazing that now, almost 20 years later, I'm getting ready to launch this website with fellow fans. I used to look at Jean-Marc's Page After Page almost daily for years. When I texted with him recently, he said it was funny that I chose February 22nd to launch Lauperland, because that was the same day in 1987 that he attended his first Cyndi Lauper concert in Brussels. I guess everything does come full circle, or something like that.
I'd like to thank Cyndi Lauper for giving me the courage to be different as a 14 year-old boy. And your music's pretty cool. You still inspire me 34 years later.
Thank you Jean-Marc Piraprez for entrusting me with your treasure chest.
Thank you to my husband, Robert Newart, for all his hard work on this site. He's also got a thing for redheads - his favorite singer is Reba, and his distant cousin and most beloved comedienne is Lucille Ball. He spent many long nights working on this, his first website, with no training - AND without complaining.
Thank you Lisa Barbaris and David Thornton for keeping Cyndi safe and busy.
Thank you to the fantastic "Stage Managers" who have worked endlessly over the past month or so to make Lauperland a reality: RJ Sullivan, Marco Zambelli, Kathryn Campus-Sweeney, Colin McLeod, Lily Storring, John Matthews, Dave Eichler, Robin Christensen and Magaly Silveria.
Thank you to William Wittman, Caitlin Kalafus, Elaine Caswell, Alex Nolan, Matt Katz-Bohen and all the other wonderful musicians who have had Cyndi's back throughout the years.
Thank you Patrick Lucas, Jutta Weiss, Laura Wills (Screaming Mimi's), Jody Morlock and Nikki Fontanella for the glam.
Thank you to Brett Willis of TOONARAMA for licensing your brilliant Cyndi Toon artwork to me.
And last, but certainly not least, thank you to all my fellow fans for reminding me that goonies ARE good enough.
Now, off to open the site."

I want to thank everybody who helped me to create this site that I hope you enjoy. Indeed, this work wouldn't have been possible without the help of people all around the world.
First, I want of course to thank Cyndi for her voice, her music and her ability not to take things too seriously. Of course, without her, this site would not have been created.
Then, a great thanks to Roberto Campus who designed the background, the titles and the thumbnails of the site.
Thanks also to Sven Papperitz without whom the site would not have survived.
Thanks to Euronet Internet who let me use their server in order to publish this site.
Thanks to Sony Music and Sony Music Belgium who gave me the authorization to publish this page.
The other people who helped me are the following ones in alphabetical order. I have done all my possible to thank everybody who helped me to create the site. If you think that I forgot to write your name, mail me: I'll add you. And if you want me to add your E-mail address, let me know as well. If you send me additional information, please always let me know your full name in order me to add you in this list. If you found here your name in an incorrect spelling or without family name for example, first excuse me, then let me it know.
